Self Employment

Standguide are specialists in Self Employment
We have a team of experts who solely concentrate on  Jobseekers who want to go self employed. They talk through everything, highlighting both the positive and negative sides of running your own business. This helps customers make an informed decision as to whether or not self employment is for them.

What’s involved?
An initial  one-to-one meeting is made with customers to discuss their business idea and if they are viable. We also find out how we can assist them to help them realise their idea. If customers have health issues, restrictive disabilities or communication barriers we can organise home visits. We also have translation methods and work at a pace that customer finds comfortable to help secure business sustainability. We advise customers on different business models – sole trader, partnership or limited company.

During further business planning sessions we help customers map out their business idea, including USP, short, medium and long term goals. This is also utilised if a customer requires finance.

Our team will help customer complete a cash flow forecast so they are aware of how much they need to bring in each month to make the business sustainable.

We advise customer on how to market their business and different methods available i.e. Twitter, Facebook, setting  up a website, leaflet distribution, trade magazines, You Tube, business cards and by helping local charities. We will also design and print your business cards and flyers

If financial support if required we assist customers in loan applications and advise on how to complete these and we also get customer ready for loan interviews.

We run through book-keeping sessions with customer and advise on legal accounting requirements (also if accounts need to be certified or not)

We discuss the need for business insurance if required and explain the different types of cover available i.e. public liability/employers liability or professional indemnity insurance. Allowing customers to make an informed decision on whether or not they want to purchase one of these.

The team will agree a Sign Off timeline with customers and organise applicable benefits and we will be there to help complete forms from councils, tax credits and HMRC. We help customers register new business and advise on the correct class of National Insurance that they need to register for.

If Business premises are required we advise on lease agreements, break clauses and locations.

Standguide provide ongoing in-work support if required – and support customer through the first 12 months, which is the most difficult time for any new business.
