CAREERS ADVICE AND GUIDANCE

IMPROVE YOUR SKILLS, YOUR JOB, YOUR FUTURE.

If you are aged 18 or over you may not be aware of the additional support available to help you get back into work. This involves working with ‘nextstep’ advisers who will:

Tell you about different job roles and the skills or qualifications you may need.
Help you find the right learning or training to suit you.
Advise you on funding and support for learning or training.
Help you find out about job vacancies, self-employment or voluntary opportunities.
Help you write a CV and get ready for an interview.

What is a Skills Health Check?

As well as the above support, your ‘nextstep’ adviser will help you to review your current skills and consider alternative job options. As part of this process, you may use an online skills tool which will help to identify your transferable skills.
Access to the ‘nextstep’ service will be a face-to-face in depth meeting to look at your needs and in the interview we cover the following:

Where are you now?
What are your skills?
What job would you like?

What’s stopping you?

Lack of skills / qualifications
Low confidence (I need some encouragement)
I need some help with my CV

What are your goals?

To improve my skills / qualifications
To be more confident
To develop a CV and get the ideal job

So now you know what support is available, take the nextstep and speak to your Jobcentre Plus Adviser today to arrange your first appointment with an independent nextstep adviser.
